Hello and Happy New Year!
As it's the start of a new year and I once again have the creative urge (the holiday must have done its job!), I wanted to put together a little post of inspiration to kickstart some print ideas. After sifting through a few SS25 print trend reports, I started looking through runway photos and noting down thoughts that can hopefully help shape my creative direction for any future prints.

Starting off strong with the stunning Fendi SS25 show. Romantic visions of pink, lace and pressed flowers with nods to 1920s era silhouettes. I was really drawn to the different lace fabrics used throughout the looks. A modern take on traditional lace with stylised floral motifs and paisley designs featured within. These designs definitely inspired me to create a print with aspects drawn from traditional lace designs, perhaps looking to nature for a natural occurring pattern similar to traditional lace.

The whimsical Loewe show featured deconstructed silhouettes and unexpected materials - Jonathan Anderson really is a genius. I was particularly drawn to the floral print pictured above. The floral motifs have a certain messiness and sketchy quality to them that when printed on a sheer fabric almost makes them look blurred. The light washed colours reminiscent of the romantic soft florals featured through the boho print trend. In a similar vain, the prints from Collina Strada and Stine Goya show a more abstract print - perhaps its a completely blurred field of flowers? I love the softness the blurred effect creates for Strada's pastel print while the same effect on the Stine Goya print showcases a more graphic look with vibrant colours.

Looking to Erdem's SS25 collection, I loved this vibrant cobalt blue floral print contrasted against the soft off-white. I was really drawn to the bigger floral motifs, they almost look stamped with some of the detail missing. While I have created a print previously using stamped flowers (see the Blak print blogpost here), I would love to revisit that idea - perhaps in a bigger scale. I really love experimenting with techniques that create beautiful motifs without the traditional drawing/painting methods.
The bigger scale floral design on the second Erdem dress really reminded me of a cyanotype print - perhaps it was the pops of blue peeking through that cyanotype prints are recognised for. This Erdem print reminded me of a Christian Dior print from last season, similar floral motif that could have been created through a cyanotype print. Creating a floral cyanotype repeat print is definitely on my list for this year.

Lastly, this two piece suit from Erdem caught my eye. We have seen a lot of bold or classic stripes this season with the preppy print trend but I love the idea of adding in a floral motif. The Collina Strada print is more of a whimsical take, loose brush stroke stripes on a pretty periwinkle blue background.
Speaking of colours, I did notice there was a lot of lemon yellow featured through the shows. The Marni show had some great colour blocking combinations - I especially loved this cobalt blue paired with the sage green.
