The Floral Silhouettes trend combines bright colours and big scale motifs to create eye catching prints for SS21 womenswear collections. Combining the interesting negative space and the floral shapes is a chance to explore bold and harmonious colours with only two colours in the colour palette.
The motif size can majorly change the impact of these prints. The flowers on the Zara dress are repeated at a small scale and so from afar, you cannot make out the motif shapes. The colours (although monochromatic) don’t seem so bold at this scale as they almost merge into each other. The floral motifs used in the print for the Layplan dress are much bigger in comparison, you can see the wavy edges of the flowers and the leaves.
All prints only feature two colours. While some colour combinations are quite bold (Caroline Herrera), many of the other colours pair a bright colour with a neutral like black or white. Using black as the background is particularly effective as it champions the interesting negative space as a part of the print.
This print trend is one that I have seen everywhere! Particularly the brands that I follow on social media - many of the images above have been sitting in my saved folder for weeks, ready for me to write this post. The colours are particularly inspiring to me, especially the bold colour combinations - colour blocking is my cup of tea for sure! I hope you have found some inspiration from this post as well.
